5Good Helicopter, but has a learning curve
By Gun Geek
Ok I did not buy this on Amazon, I got it at a local expo show and paid a little more but it is the same heli. This is a very nice helicopter and despite other reviews seems to be very durable. To give an example I have crashed numerous times, including into the ground, into a tree, a telephone pole, a steel automotive lift (the things that lift cars in mechanic shops), while I have a few dents and dings in the rotors they are still solid and it still flies. The balance bar bent as well but I just bent it back and all is well. I would call that pretty good considering some of the more high dollar helis like my friend has the rotor will shatter upon contact with a solid surface.

There is a learning curve to flying this. Just because it is a gyro copter, dont think that you can just take it out and fly with out crashing. I had a hard time getting off the ground for the first day, ground effect came in and made it go left every time. After some practice and messing with the trim tabs on day 2 I got really good at it. It is affected by wind but ALL helicopters are. This is to include real helicopters. Not something I generally bring up but in this case it might help, I use to be on a flight line with the AH-64A and AH-64D on a regular basis, I also worked on the guidance systems and weapons. Wind has a dramatic affect on a large heli so small winds can and will knock an RC to the ground. To start learning either do it on a day with no wind or find a gym/auditorium to start.

Battery time is not bad, I get about 15 minutes per charge, it takes about 2.5 hrs to recharge the battery. I just ordered 5 more batteries here on amazon so that I can get about an hour or more of play time before having to wait on a charge. Overall I am satisfied with the purchase and actually am going to get one for my buddy who paid over 400 on his Pro heli that is too hard to get off the ground. I figure use these a learning tool then get to the bigger more advanced 4 - 6 channel helis.

Again just a suggestion, but get good with it at about 1.5 - 2 ft off the ground first. Its harder to fly closer to the ground because of ground effects so if you can get good close to the ground you should have no problems higher in the air.

4Good copter, can be great with a few minor mods...
By apsbainc
For the price, you actually get a pretty decent piece of hardware. That being said, there are a few modifications I would make before use. It says ready to fly on the box, and fly it will... how well is definitely open to debate. The first thing is to remove the canopy, loosen the battery, and slide it most of the way forward, then tighten the mounting bracket down again. This will move the center of gravity forward. This is necessary because without doing this, you literally cannot fly forwards. Other mods to increase maneuverability are to shorten the tail boom, slide the landing skids forward (easy), and replace the rear tail rotor with one of these: [...]
After replacing the rear rotor you will have to move the rear stabilizers up on the boom to make room for the larger blades.
Another mod that helps a lot is to replace the battery with a larger one, like a 15c 7.4v 3000mah. This also improves the flight characteristics by increasing weight in the nose, and over all (less likely to be batted about by the wind)
Make sure to buy a full set of replacement parts. You will need them... the helicopter is tough, dont get be wrong (I have crashed from 40+ feet with little to no damage) but there are breakable parts like the blade holders. (they are cheap, buy a hand full)
And here is a link to a forum which has a lot of good info about how to make this good little chopper a great one. For the price, its really a great deal.
[...]
[...]

A lot of people seem to knock this helicopter because they don't ever want to work on it. That's part of the hobby... Improving and repairing the equipment. Its not all that complex, and the parts are CHEAP, which is a boon. There are many 'hobby grade' helicopters out there you could spend a lot more money on that probably fly better etc... but the cost of maintainability goes WAY up. Consider that for an initial investment of ~$60 its quite a hoot.

2It's alright, could've been better
By e2e4
I agree with some of the things the previous reviewer said, but I think the product deserves more than one star. For the size (it's big) it could've been better. You need to have some experience with helicopters, otherwise you are going to crash it.It's stable alright, but not that stable for a beginner. I was looking for a stable platform that can hover enough to take pictures or short clips.I haven't yet attached any equipment but my guess is the heli can take an extra 30-50 grams easily.
It is powered by 2 cheap 370 stock motors and in spite of the metal body, almost all other parts are plastic. It can take small hits, but a serious crash will damage the helicopter to the point it will become unflyable. Built in gyro seems to be working fine, but I have a vibration into frame at different rpm.(My guess is the fly bar which is easily bendable). I will update my review as I will add more flying time, that's if I don't brake it first.
The transmitter is a cheap 27Mhz (mostly used for cars) and I cannot trust it.
If this was a 2.4 Ghz tx/tx I wouldn't feel sorry for the money.
On a positive note, I like it better than my Walkera 4# Metal Edition.
I really appreciate how the seller handled my order, I received it in a couple of days.
UPDATE:
This machine has serious issues with the tx/rx. Sometimes is not responding to inputs or sometimes it's taking more than 1-2 seconds to respond. This is very dangerous and the manufacturer should fix this right the way. This can lead to serious injuries and NOT by the fault of user.Buyer, be aware.Having a bad transmitter receiver is intolerable for a 26 inch helicopter!!!! In my initial review, I gave the product 3 stars, i'm now rating it to 2 for the sake of airframe.
2ND UPDATE:
It seems the TX/RX problems were caused by a weak battery and the folded antenna wire. After changing the battery to a lipo 1250 mAh and repositioning the receiver wire, I got better results.Maybe I get a lot of interference on 27 Mhz, that's why this band (frequency)is not a good for air RCs..plus is very short range..speaking of which extend your transmitter antenna to full!.I tested the machine outdoors in very light winds. It seems very sensitive to any kind of wind. Also, you might want to add a bit of weight to the nose as trimmed full forward, still drifts backwards. In my case it worked.I added a 20-30 gram metal piece, but bear in mind that I also replaced the stock battery.
This is my last update as I don't wanna create a journal.I hope somebody will find something useful from what I experienced.
I crashed it several times with no damage, only the balance bar bended. Bended back.Since i resolved my tx/rx problem I manage to hover it without incidents in my back yard. In case you crash, cut the throttle to minimum immediately - that's gonna minimize the damage.

4Critical Piece of Instruction....
By D. Reading
We were disapointed in this toy on Christmas morning. It was impossible to fly - it just went sideways as soon as it took off and nothing we did seemed to calibrate it sufficiently to hover. The instruction manual says "After charging the aircraft the light will flash for ten seconds. Turn on the aircraft and controller and wait for flashing lights to indicate the aircraft is ready for flight." What it fails to mention is that it is critical to place the "aircraft" on a flat surface at his time IMMEDIATELY after inserting the battery. The model then apparently is able to calibrate itself and will hover reasonably stablely. The online manual clued me in to our mistake (we were probably holding the model in our hands in an un-level position for the first dozen seconds after plugging in the battery)

"When insert the charged battery, quad copter will into automatic detection state (the indicator light flashing swift in the first ten seconds when power on) at that time, please place it at a level position, if not copter will fly inclined"

Plug in the battery, put it down right away on the floor or table top. This should be included in the printed instruction manual, the toy is worthless without this knowledge. But once you know the secret, it works quite well and I can recommend it.

5$50 of Awesomeness
By Gadget Junkie
Let me preface by saying that I own around 40 RC helicopter ranging from high end $3000 gassers to cheap $25 fp toys. This was my first quad. I bought this at the 49.99 price point and have no regrets even though they are now 39.99

This has been the best $50 that I have spent in a long time. There are so many things going for this kit, where do I begin.

The Good
-Incredibly durable. I have crashed countless times from goofing around and flying indoors and have yet to cause any permanent damage. Even though this is a cheap product they made good choices in durable materials.
-Very stable and easy to fly. My wife has no experience with helicopters, but I was able to get her to try this out in our living room.
-Stable in outdoor conditions. I was surprised at the ability to fly this in light-breeze conditions.
-Payload capacity. For fun, I strapped an iPod nano to the bottom to shoot video. This weighs 35 grams and the quad seemed to be able to handle it.
-It can do flips! Nuf said.

The Bad
- Not a whole lot to say but.....
-I had some glitching problems, but rerouted the antenna through the canopy, and they seemed to go away.
-Battery life is better than the similar sized fp helicopters but with as much fun as these are, it always seems short. Spare batteries can be had for about $7.

In conclusion, after buying one of these I bought five more at the new lower price and plan on giving them away as Christmas gifts this year. This product should be up there as one of the best toys of the year.

5Amazing Impossible to break
By Jim Purdy
This quad is amazing!

I got this quad four days ago, and have had about seven flights. This thing is by far an exceptional product. My experience with helicopters began with my dad giving me a esky Lama V2. I hated that that thing. It was so unstable and I was never able to fly it without breaking something. It now sits in a corner Nothing working, and parts of it scavenged for other projects. Then I got a syma 107 It was fun to fly, but after about a week I decided I needed something more. I ordered a Wl v911, and this Syma X1. The V911 broke whiten two days, Its problem was the tail motor burned out I have ordered replacements.

Now to this product: Its agility is not so good, But it can get going very fast. It is a mode 2 controller (Throttle and rotation on the left, and forward, backward, left, and right on the right). This controller has two sensitivity modes, low and high, these are selected by the button on the top left of the controller. low is great for flying indoors, wile high is great for outside; although It cannot handle wind. It has a 350 mah battery that keeps it flying for about eight minutes. It is exceptionally durable, with four carbon fiber blades, and very flexible rotors. It is very stable when you have it trimmed out it will stay in exactally on spot.

Pros:
Durability I have crashed it many times in spectacular crashes, great for a beginner
Power
ability to do flips
stability
2.4 ghz can fly it with lots of friends

Cons:
battery life, you don't quite feel satisfied when you finish
cheesy center plastic cover
low agility

Overall this is a great product, and I would highly recommend. The main bad thing is the battery life, but it is easy to get them off the syma parts store.

5This is exactly what I wanted!
By John D. Jayroe
To correct the description, it actually needs 6 AA batteries.

I wanted an inexpensive off road R/C vehicle that didn't cost much over $100. I'm not planning on racing, just something for the yard and driveway. Well, this fit the bill perfectly. It will crawl over grass, sidewalks, sand, small animals, almost anything that gets in it's way. It does exactly what you think those cheap R/C trucks SHOULD do but don't. I drove it in the rain and through shallow water and it did great. The only downside so far is the whine of the motors but it probably geared to heck to do all that it does. I paid less for it at Wally World so shop around.

+ two motors
+ true four wheel drive
+ AA batteries (not some battery pack that is hard to find)
+ good value for the money
+ good tires and suspension

- motor/gear whine

5Great in snow!
By Kris10
My 9 year old son got this for Christmas and he was happy with it. He makes up indoor obstacle courses with legos, books, rocks and other things to drive over. It pretty much went over everything no problem. The wheels are great! They're not the plastic ones that have no traction that gets the car stuck with the wheels spinning & spinning. These wheels are bouncy and have great traction for climbing over things. My son takes it out into the snow (although it's probably not recommended for wet snow) but it works all the same. The independent suspension is amazing! All 4 wheels bend independently, hense making "4 wheeling" easier. It requires 6 AA batteries and a 9 volt battery for the remote.
